We’ve all been there. Stuck in habit of doing the same-old same-old routine, we may think about changing but it usually takes an outside force to get us to do so. Changing the color on your walls or your morning routine doesn’t seem like much, I know. The little things in life can and do make a huge impact on your way of life.

For me, my personal upgrade was my morning routine. I was never a “morning person” but a few little tweaks made my mornings work for me. Even if you are an up and riser, these little life hacks can…

Karma Knocks

2016-02-19-23-26-27-1185610235

For two  mornings  now  I’ve been awakened just as the first  ray  of sunlight  shyly peeks over the top of Superstition Mountain and beams westward towards where I lay comfy-cozy in my bed…..with a sound that is exactly what machine-gun delivered light would sound like, should the sun ever suddenly lose its celestial sanity.

This morning it dawned on me that I have been awfully lazy lately…..even very much so, actually. My next thought, without a pause (but more than a few exclamation points! ) was that Karma was Knocking…

Admittedly, I was only slightly awake. BUT STILL….

What better karma for laziness than a woodpecker pecking on my shed’s tin roof?

EXTREMELY  LOUD PECKING, HAMMERING, POUNDING…OUTSIDE MY OPEN WINDOW STRAIGHT INTO MY BRAIN

“I’ll tell you what”… 🙂 (I say with a Southern Drawl to ya’ll)

“Early to bed , Early to rise

Woodpecker you’re in

For a surprise morning fright!”

I have noisemakers leftover from New Years , and I am not afraid to use them….

ANY AND ALL BETTER IDEAS ARE VERY WELCOME!  ENCOURAGED! Needed badly !! If you’re thinking of a better plan of action for my dilemma ..PLEASE Post your suggestion in the comments …and thank you, thank you!

(I am a bird lover, by the way, so B.B. Guns, Slingshots and spear guns are not in any way a consideration. )

There’s got to be an off the wall solution for an oddball blind-as-a-bat bird whose parents must have been a construction worker and a rooster. I am cured of my lazy ways! I’m too grouchy in the morning to be woke up this way!

Bbbbbbirdgggggggottagggggo!

Did I mention that I’m the dramatic one in my family?

Boyfriend Beer Cake

Love…..

Crafty thoughts from a foodie Mom

This is what I call the “Boyfriend Beer Cake”, a perfect combination of chocolate and beer. I started making this a few years ago, as a Valentines gift for my boyfriend. I never knew what to get him and he was a foodie like myself so I decided to make something for him instead of buying something. I combined his two favorite things, a good dark stout and chocolate. It was a smash and I now make it every year. Needless to say the recipe stayed, the boyfriend didn’t.. lol!  Hope you enjoy it.

Also, feel free to add coconut, walnuts or almonds into the icing for a little crunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 7 fluid ounces dark beer
  • 2/3 cup very soft butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 14 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • For the icing

  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon…

Organize for 10 dollars or less!

Another great idea from ‘ craftythoughts from a foodie mom ‘…
With my books and pens/pencils/markers (etc) organized, writing will be a piece of cake!

Crafty thoughts from a foodie Mom

There are great finds at your local dollar store. I picked up 4 glass vases and some random sized glass containers, some with lids. I always have a few extra baskets lying around so I threw everything in one I wasn’t using, and tada!

You could even leave them out of the basket and just line them up on a empty shelf. If you have any spare vases, cups, mason jars or Tupperware you can repurpose what you have by a little spray paint, glitter nail polish or some designs using permanent marker to mix it up.

Table toppers for book lovers

What a great idea…I imagine magazines could be contained just as easily. Thanks foodie mom for the idea!!!

book1book2We all have those books lying around that we are either currently reading or is on your mental list for reading again. These are some great ways to keep them handy that don’t get in your way. I have these two on the sides of my couch for décor and convenience.

You can use any basket or carrier and can make it as simple or extravagant as you like.

Listening

hj,l,l

I can almost hear the answer…

Ghostly, drawn out  words arriving now in haste,

From the other side of the horizon.

The wind (with it’s ego such as it is)

Carrying them like a gift towards me…

Unaware how it’s incessant howling has erased them

on the way.

….I will wait

Calm, standing tall.  Relaxing once again

Forgiving the wind, letting go with a sway

Listening

(Having asked so long ago)

The question whose answer my heart ached to know.

It aches still…

Pounding away at day’s end,

As the Sun carries its’ warm light away from the land.

Enter the night.

Without a sound – rises the moon

Where he lives, the man I love

Silent as when we met

It seems glimpses are all that we get, of each other.

Achingly, long ago, I screamed out ..

” Can I rise to the sky…forever…..to be by your side?? “

Crying till the sun rose and the first day began

Listening

Here and now, waiting still

Having not been told that I cannot go

Onto hope I shall hold

Counting each day at day’s end
